This is what is the basic layout and already my house style of red and black is already showing on the contents page and already showing synergy with my front cover.

This is one of my final stages of production of my Contents page, all writing is finished, just a few small changes must be made, such lining up the numbers so they are inline with eachover.Billboard contents page - Inspiration.I used this layout to help me design my own contents page, i took inspiration from the layout such as the left No1 charts bar, i used similar colours yet i kept my house style.

I chose Billboard because we feature the same genre, therefore i wanted to show a conventional contents page that suggested my specific genre, i thought this would be the most effective way if i took inspiration from Billboard, i also love their house style and layout, it suggests that the magazine is sophisticated and created and designed by professionals.

Style Model -Inspiration

 A Style Model is where you get inspiration from a magazine, you can take ideas of anouther magazine and use them in your own, such as the colour scheme, or the way it is layed out.





These magazines are targeted at the same age as i am targeting at, Billboard features the Pop genre, they will feature artists that are well known, such as Lilly Allen.

I will take insperation from this magazines. i like the pale backgrounds and the expressions on the models.

I prefer the layout on the Q magazine, it features a left hand third and it is simplistic and i feel that it stands out.

The production of my magazine

I have used photoshop to create my magazine, photoshop allowed me to easily edit my photos and alter the layers of my images.  I prefer photoshop to Quark Xpress, this is because i feel that the layering in photoshop is much easy to manage then Quark Xpress,i also like photoshop because you can easily change the images, such as the contrast of the image whereas you can not in Quark Xpress.

This barcode shows the price of the magazine, as well as the website address.

Within the first picture of the production of my magazine i have a barcode, a banner, a main image and the masthead.

In this picture i have added some headlines, a pull quote, the date and issue number. So far the magazine is following conventions of a magazine front cover.

I have changed the masthead, i feel that it stands out alot more and looks much more pofetionnal, i have also made the pull quote stand out more and i changed the banner and moved the main image.

These further altercations that have been  made, look as if it  is more professional and that the main aspects stands out.  It follows conventions of a magazine, the colours i have picked and the house style look very appealing, especially loud and bold.

This is where my production of my magazine changed drasticuly, i decided that the red background had to go so witha new model i have managed to take a picture that follows conventions of a magazine cover, it is conventional to have a white background.

Final alterations to masthead

Due to the background of my main image being red the colours of my original mast head did not stand out and look good in front of red, therefore i have changed the masthead to a chrome look, i feel that it suggests wealth and excitement.

I then decided to go for a more simple look that was more simplified than the previous one and hopefully it looks reconcilable and is very easy to read.  It also stands out from the red background.

From this design i altered to look like this, i felt that one the main headlines stood out just as much as the mast head did, therefore by adding a gradient it looked bolder and therefore stood out from the rest of the page.

Editing the main image

I had originally chosen this image to edit:

By using photoshop i edited this image, i airbrushed the skin to make it have a pofetional model look.

I also removed the models hair frizz to make the model look neater, i wanted the image to look as pofetional as possible so that the magazine would follow with this element.

I also used diffrent layers to help me create my final image.

 

My final image i have chosen is this image, i have chosen this one because it is an image that suggests that she has had a photo shoot done for the model, this suggests that the magazine will be more personal towards this 'artist'.

The image itself suggests that there is a relationship between the model and the viewer, this is because of the direct mode of address and the viewer can feel that she is looking directly at them.

However ihave decided to go witha nouther image as i do not feel that the background is best suited for my target market, and it is not a colour that my market would find appealing.



Photo Shoot

For the front page of my magazine i needed a photo, i chose a model that i thought was best for my magazine.  Maria is aged 17 and this meant the  audience could relate to the magazine because they are of the similar age.  The audience will also know that the magazine will be targeted at their generation and they would find this more appealing to buy.

These are a few of the photos that i had taken for my main image.

The red background is a bold colour and the model stands out from it. Red is a very dominate colour that can easily attract attention and it connotes danger, this suggests that my magazine is cutting edge and the magazine will be very eye catching information that is vitally important to buy/read.

 Black is a strong colour that can commonly be viewed as negative colour, however it is bold and contrasts against light colours, therefore sell lines and other aspects of a magazine could easily be designed to stand out from the dark background and be eye catching towards the audience.

I chose the model Hannah to wear a black top, this i because i wanted her face to stand out more than anything else. This could suggest that the article that features her will be more about herself and more personal, this could attract and purchase the audience to purchase the magazine. 

Misfits analyse representation

This is a a picture of a TV programme, i have looked at the representation of the characters and the setting of background. Representaion refers to the construction in any medium of aspects of 'reality' such as people, places, objects,events, cultural identities and other abstract concepts.

Masthead design + lOGO

I firstly chose a design i could create on Photoshop on a website, i used a tutorial on how to make a gel style text type, by following the steps i eventually made text that i thought i could use for my magazine cover.

These are a few designs that i made, i changed the colour, font and layout to find my perfect masthead design.

This is my favorite design so far(below) , it is very likely that this will be my final design.  The colours were influenced by my questionnaire  results had shown that light colours were preferred over darker ones, this suggests that this would appeal to a larger amount of people.

I have designed a logo that uses synergy and follows my house style.

They are the same colours as my masthead will be. it also symbolizes music, such as the volume icon. It was originally designed like this:

This suggests that the music is being turned down, which is not what i want my magazine to represent and suggest.

Survey Monkey questionaire

My questionnaire results showed me why a  magazine appeals to them and the sort of magazine they buy.

-My survey results showed that 73% of people rarely buy magazines.
-Over 50% have bought a music magazine
-Over 85% enjoy most of the top 40
-The majority of people said they found the main image most appealing thing on a front cover.
-Pop showed to be the most popular genre of music.
-My results showed that price did not really matter
-55% of people prefer their magazine to come out monthly.
-The majority of people prefer light colours to dark colours.

Name of magazine and genre of magazine

The genre of my magazine will be new music, music that is in the top 40, this would generally be pop music, artists such as Avvici, Daft Punk and Jessie J, i will not be including  artists such as Justin Bieber and Myley Cyrus, this is because my target audience typically do not like these artists, they are targeted at  a much younger age group.

I will be targeting my magazine at  females aged 18-25, i have decided to target females because i understand that market better, this is because i know what is appealing to women seeing as i am one.
I also feel that to appeal to the male audience i would have to include a picture on the main page that could be seen as inappropriate, this is because i would be following conventions of a magazine, and to include an inappropriate image of a women on the front page of the magazine is appealing to men, and most magazines that are targeted at men have this included.

The name for my magazine will be called Top Chart, it suggests that it will be focusing on the genre of mainstream music and music that will be included in the top 40, people who are interested in mainstream music will instantly appeal to my magazine this is because straight away by just reading the masthead they know it is the music they enjoy and love.  I am also appealing to the majority of music lovers, this is because for music to get into the top 40 they have to be bought, downloaded or listened to, this way i know that already the majority of people like the music.

These are some popular music magazines that i have found, they are all diffrent genres, i found that a popular genre for a music magazine is mainstream music or indie music, the mainstream music appeals to alot more people, however the indie which is just as populkar appeals to a much smaller amount of people, but their audience really enjoys music and has a real pashion for it.

Q and Kerrang music magazine is both owened by the Bauer media instituition.
